History
La Escola del Puig is located in the village of Puig, in the municipality of Baronia de Rialb, in the north-east part of the region of La Noguera, between Folquer, Ponts and Gabarra. 33 km from Artesa de Segre, 17 km from Ponts and 64 km from Balaguer (the capital of the region). The origins of the muncipality are very ancient: this fact is appreciated by the presence of dolmens and the remainders of troglodyte villages. In the feudal times, under the power of the nobility, the owners of the castle of Taravall, los Caubet, the chapter of Urgel and other like the Peramola, it began a project of construction of small population nuclei, with few houses and a church in each of these places.
In general, these areas were constructed in the heights and in the plains, as you can see clearly in the municipality of Baronia de Rialb. They would set the mills to produce energy from the river, to sew the Wod, and to grind the cereals,... those places are actually turned into piscifactories. The new inhabitants took care of the fields and the cattle.
And it went on like that until the thirties, when the schools were built, in an attempt to maintain and increase the popultation in these small areas.
The village is uninhabited, and the Escola del Puig is the only house that's been restored. The main entrance faces the square of the village, near the church, and at the back, there are splendid views.
